This US economy has had many ups and downs - one thing's a sure bet though - real estate (land) is here for the long haul - and has ALWAYS been here. It's value has always rebounded. In Wichita, Kansas - we have been fairly isolated from the major swings in the market - but we are certainly feeling the pinch as is the rest of the country - our home prices, however, have always remained affordable and never had the huge fluctuations that some of the costal and other states have seen. It is for this very reason that is why we in Kansas are seeing more and more family move to our state. They can get reasonable paying jobs, the schools are pretty good, there is safe and sanitary infrastructure, a good moral base for neighbors that look our for one another, cheap entertainment (and lots of it!), low food prices and of course our real estate prices are affordable!
Right now, we have an increasing supply of REO or Real Estate Owned properties - these are properties that have gone through foreclosure and are now in the books of local and national mortgage lenders and banks. Most of these homes require some minor repairs, some need total renovations - however there are some real gems out there as well!
